javascript in the footer with Drupal

WebTech Talk

While working on the new version of our Zen sub-theme WWUZen, I have been focusing on increasing the performance of the theme. One area to improve was to move render blocking javascript into the footer. This is pretty easy to do and seems to work across browsers. Helpfully the Zen development team did not include respond.js or html5.js as part of the $scripts aggregated by Drupal.

To make the change move,   <?php print $scripts; ?> from near the top of /templates/html.tpl.php to the footer right above   <?php print $page_bottom; ?>.

This small change should help content load faster on slow connections. All existing sites will be receiving this update shortly if not already.
